TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 12. Uzbekistan will invest $1 billion in gas exploration and production in Afghanistan, Afghanistan's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar wrote on social media, Trend reports.

According to the information, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have signed a 10-year contract to develop the Tuti-Maidan natural gas field located in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces.

The Uzbek side will invest $100 million in the first year and will also build a 100-megawatt thermal power plant within two years.

The project covers a field area of about 7,000 square kilometers, and its implementation will create thousands of jobs both directly and through related industries. The start of gas production will be an important step in strengthening Afghanistan's energy security.

To note, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov received the new Ambassador of Afghanistan to Uzbekistan Abdul Ghafar Terawi on October 9, 2024.
