US Secretary of State John Kerry hopes that the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program with the "Six" international mediators will accelerate after he meets with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Geneva, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Reuters agency.

"The meeting will be held to assess the situation, and secondly, to give instructions to the teams," Kerry said. "I hope that the meeting will accelerate the negotiation process to achieve the progress."

Earlier, Zarif said that an Iranian delegation in Geneva will seek to accelerate the negotiations on its nuclear program.

The Iranian and the US delegations will hold bilateral meetings on January 15-17. A plenary meeting will be held in the format of "Six" and Iran in Geneva on January 18.

"Six" international mediators [Russia, the US, Great Britain, France, China and Germany] and Iran agreed to prepare an agreement in Geneva in November 2013. It ensures the exclusively peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for full lifting of sanctions. This agreement was not prepared by November 24, 2014. There is only an "interim plan of actions". The sides extended the negotiations until the end of June.
