ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 13. A unified drone system, previously introduced at the Digital Almaty forum and currently used in Almaty for maintaining public order, will now be utilized to monitor flood situations at the initiative of the North Kazakhstan Region's akimat of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
"Drones will fly three times a day along predetermined routes to collect data from flood-prone areas. This will allow real-time assessment of river ice conditions, snow reserves, melting moments, and overflows, enabling timely response," said Ruslan Alishev, Chief of Staff of the North Kazakhstan Region's akim (Governor).
The data will be sent over to the Operations Control Center, where they'll hit the ground running with quick responses and decision-making.
"Currently, following the President’s directive, Kazakhtelecom is implementing a project for a unified drone infrastructure across Kazakhstan. We plan to launch around 100 drones in the near future, particularly during floods and forest fires. In North Kazakhstan, six locations have been designated for drone deployment. The number of drones used during the flood season will depend on the situation," explained Ablaihan Ospanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Kazakhtelecom JSC.
To note, this innovation aims to enhance emergency response effectiveness, improve monitoring, and ensure safety in flood-prone regions. The experience will later be scaled to other high-risk flood areas across the country.
