TEHRAN, Iran, October 12. Spokesman for Iranian association of mobile phone importers, Mohammadreza Aalian said that within the last few days, the procedure for registration of mobile device imports worth more than $600 has started, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Local cellphone importers in Iran received an announcement that they can import the mentioned mobile devices, using foreign currency earned through their own exports," he said.
Since May 2022, the government of Iran has banned the import of smartphones worth more than $600.
According to the Iranian media, the decision is taken due to the drastic reduction of Iran’s foreign exchange resources.
Meanwhile, Iran’s mobile phone imports decreased by 19 percent in value and 33 percent in number, during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through July 22, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year
