BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 18. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, through its subsidiary SOCAR Switzerland, is undertaking several green projects in the country, the company's head of environmental disclosures and green affairs department Mustafa Gurbanli told reporters, Trend reports.
He made the statement during SOCAR's media tour.
"In 2023, SOCAR Switzerland opened the country's first hydrogen refueling station. Additionally, SOCAR, alongside European EW Hofe and Alpiq companies, is considering establishing a small electrolyzer plant (10 MW capacity) in Switzerland as a pilot project aligned with the EU Green Agenda,” Gurbanli noted in his presentation to the media.
SOCAR has been active in the Swiss market for over a decade and operates more than 200 gas stations.
Since 2014, SOCAR Switzerland has been installing devices at gas stations that enable electric cars to recharge in 20 minutes, providing a range of 100 km without needing further charging.
Additionally, SOCAR collaborates with the Swiss South Pole company to offset carbon dioxide emissions from fuel purchased by customers at gas stations. The funds collected are used to finance sustainable development projects.
SOCAR Switzerland also supplies liquefied natural gas (SOCAR Gas) to residential and commercial customers. Given that not all Swiss settlements are connected to gas pipeline networks, liquefied natural gas serves as an energy source for home heating plants.
