TEHRAN, Iran, September 5. Iran is expected to export 100,000 tons of onion to Pakistan, said chairman of the national union of agricultural products Reza Nourani, Trend reports citing ILNA.
The recent flood in Pakistan has damaged farms and the country is facing a shortage of onion, tomato, and other agricultural products, he said.
Pakistan is a good market for Iranian agricultural products and the two countries have recently signed agreements in this regard, he said adding that Iran could export apples and import bananas, mango, and quinoa from Pakistan.
He pointed out that the export of agricultural products has declined in the past two months due to sanctions, difficulties in returning export revenues, and a shortage of refrigerator containers.
He underlined that returning export revenue from flood-hit Pakistan would be difficult and it would take about 3 to 6 months for the country to make the payment.
The official predicted that the price of onion and tomato would increase in the domestic market and requires management to supply consumers’ needs.
