British Ambassador in Ankara David Reddaway has said that his country supported Turkey's EU membership bid, Anadolu News Agency reported.
Reddaway paid a visit to Governor Ilhan Atis of the southern province of Adana on Thursday.
He said that relations between Turkey and Britain were boosting each day, stressing that his country supported Turkey's EU membership.
Noting that Britain wanted commercial relations with Turkey to increase, Reddaway said that the two countries were cooperating in various areas from education to security.
He noted that high-level meetings between the two countries were strengthening the relations.
On the other hand, Governor Atis briefed Reddaway about the social and economic condition of the city, and said that Adana had become an energy region.
Adana has become an important city thanks to 120 million tons of oil which flows from Baku and Kirkuk to the city annually, he said.
Regarding Turkey's EU membership issue, Atis said that Turkey was as much European as France and Switzerland were. He added that Turkey's accession to the EU was delayed due to objection of several countries.
