Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, April 14 / Trend , G.Hasanov/
Turkmenistan cares of its reputation as a reliable supplier of energy to world markets, and timely upgrading of gas transportation infrastructure, local media quoted President Gurbangulu Berdymuhamedov as saying in the Cabinet of Ministers.
Turkmenistan is one of the key natural fuel suppliers in the Caspian region. The Russia's Gazprom is the main buyer under long-term contract and Iran buys small volumes.
President Berdymuhamedov instructed the Prime Minister T.Tagyev together with Gazprom to investigate the accident on the SATS-4 gas pipeline. The accident occurred on April 8-9, the Altyn Asyr national television said.
"Independent international experts will be invited if necessary. The party in fault will assume expenditure on damage control," the President said.
Turkmenistan is implementing a program of modernizing the infrastructure of interstate pipelines, including the Central Asia-Center, which serves the export flow of Turkmen gas in the northern direction.
Four powerful gas compressor settings were put into operation, the foundation of new compressor stations and other large stations were created on interstate gas pipelines, which were equipped with modern control and management systems over the last two years. Roughly $1 billion were spent for these purposes.
"We will continue to develop and upgrade the basis of national economy and implement long-term interstate agreements on cooperation in the gas sphere," Berdymuhamedov added.
The Turkmen Foreign Ministry laid the blame on Russia, as Gazprom cut gas without making any statement. Under the contract, Turkmenistan supplies natural gas in the territory of the country. Russia purchase gas from the Daryalyk measurement point.
"The Russian Gazpromexport is responsible for further transportation and transit of natural gas," the Ministry said.
