BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. Freight turnover on the Azerbaijan section of the South-West Transport Corridor reached 78.9 million ton-kilometres from January through June 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee indicates that this marks an increase of 15.7 million ton-kilometres, or 24.8 percent, compared to the same period last year (63.2 million ton-kilometres).
As many as 73.7 million ton-kilometres of the total were transit cargoes, marking a rise of 10.5 million ton-kilometres, or 16.6 percent, from the previous year.
The South-West Transport Corridor is an international freight route designed to connect India, the Persian Gulf, and Europe via Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Ukraine, aiming to reduce transit times from approximately 35-37 days to as few as 12 days. Initiated by Azerbaijan Railways, the corridor offers a faster and more efficient alternative to sea routes, facilitating cargo transportation in both directions.
