BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 22. The volume of cargo transported through Iranian airports fell by 21 percent during the five months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through August 22, 2025) compared to the same period of the last year (from March 20 through August 21, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the Iran Airport and Air Navigation Company (IAC) shows that during the reporting period, this figure tipped the scales at 130,000 tons, a far cry from the 165,000 tons seen in the same five months last year.

In the four months, the majority of cargo was transported through Iran's Mashhad Airport with 33,300 tons, Mehrabad Airport with 33,200 tons, and Shiraz Airport with 10,400 tons.
A total of 54 civilian airports operate in Iran. Of these, 14 are international airports. Iranian airports transport an average of 30 million passengers annually.
