The trade between Iran and Qatar in the current Iranian year (began March 21,2019) has not exceeded the previous year, the chairman of the Iran-Qatar Chamber of Commerce Adnan Mousapour told Trend.
"It is unlikely that export from Qatar would increase to reach last year's volume. Part of export this year was affected by sanctions, and some of it was halted due to domestic issues," Mousapour explained.
The official pointed out that Iran's main export items to Qatar are construction materials and food items.
Mousapour said that Iran's imports from Qatar was not very big, and one of the issues is that the Islamic Republic still doesn't see Qatar as a regional hub.
"A major problem here is that Qatar's infrastructure isn't ready for re-export," he said.
Mousapour said that Iran exported $260 million worth of goods to Qatar last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018).
He expressed hope that Iran's share of goods on Qatar's market will grow, admitting that the two countries' trade is also affected by banking problems.
"At the same time, most efforts made by the private sector of Iran helped to improve trade, exports and imports," Mousapour said.
