The profit of all banks in Uzbekistan in January 2021 amounted to 824 billion soums ($78 million), which is 58 percent more compared to the same period in 2020, Trend reports referring to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).
According to the CBU, the interest income of Uzbek banks in January 2021 reached 3.6 trillion soums, increasing by 34 percent compared to 1M2020.
It is reported that expenditures in this category formed at the level of 2.26 trillion soums ($215 million), increasing by 38 percent. As a result, the interest margin reached 1.35 trillion soums against 1.05 trillion soums ($100 million) last year.
In addition, the CBU estimated the net profit before taxes at 957 billion soums ($91 million), while the expenses on the payment of income tax amounted to 133 billion soums ($12.8 million).
According to the information, at the moment there are 32 banks operating throughout Uzbekistan.
Earlier it was reported that banks in Uzbekistan were able to earn 5.6 trillion soums ($534 million) for the entire 2020, which is 20.5 percent more than in 2019.
It was also reported that the total volume of foreign exchange transactions in Uzbekistan in 2020 amounted to $19.5 billion, increasing by 1.7 times compared to 2019.
