Tourists from Turkmenistan driving up Azerbaijan's numbers

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 4. Azerbaijan rolled out the red carpet for a whopping 2,927 Turkmen nationals in August 2024, showing a rise of 16 percent compared to the 2,525 tourists who graced their presence in August last year, Trend reports via the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, from January through August 2024, a total of 21,059 Turkmen citizens visited Azerbaijan, marking a 30 percent rise compared to the 16,163 visitors during the same period last year.

Similarly, during the first eight months of this year, Azerbaijan welcomed over 1.748 million foreign tourists in total, representing a 30 percent increase compared to the 1.344 million arrivals in the same period last year. In this context, Turkmenistan ranks 15th in terms of tourism flow to Azerbaijan, reflecting its significant contribution to the overall tourism figures.

Over a broader period, from 2017 through 2023, a whopping 145,216 Turkmen citizens paid a visit to Azerbaijan, making a big splash among the 545,730 visitors from Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan).
