In the Alat settlement of Baku, on an area of 400 hectares, there is a ferry terminal and a Ro-Ro terminal, commissioned as part of the first stage of construction work, the throughput of which is 15 million tons of dry cargo and 100,000 containers per year, Trend reports.
After the completion of the second stage of construction, the transshipment of cargo by the port will increase to 17 million tons of cargo and 150,000 containers, and at the third stage - up to 25 million tons of cargo and 1 million containers.
The revenues of the Baku port from transshipment of goods in 2020 amounted to 30.7 million manat ($18 million), showing an annual increase of 37 percent.
Besides, on March 10, 2021, the port reported that a ‘Barys’ container ship arrived from Kazakhstan, with 125 containers on board, two of which belong to Azerbaijan.
"The rest of the containers will be delivered by rail in transit through Azerbaijan to Turkey and Italy. Some 85 containers contain tomato paste, others contain various food products," the port said.
Moreover, during this week, ADY Express LLC, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, reported that it transported grain and wheat bran from Russia to Turkey via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway.
A train loaded with grain from the Tatarskaya station of the West Siberian railway arrived at its destination, having passed a distance of 4,745 kilometers, and a train with wheat bran from the Shadrinsk station of the South Ural railway – 4,054 kilometers.
The transportation was carried out by ADY Express LLC with its partners - RJD Logistics (Russia), GR Logistics (Georgia) and Pacific Eurasia Logistics (Turkey), the company added.
Moreover, Head of the advertising and marketing communications bureau of Stadler Minsk CJSC, Dina Kazakevich, reminded that in 2019, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and Stadler Rail AG signed a new contract for the supply of ten more single-deck FLIRT trains (Fast Light Innovative Regional Train - high-speed light innovative regional train).
In addition, in the outgoing week, as part of the modernization of Azerbaijan's railway infrastructure, French Alstom company Managing Director in West and Central Asia, Guillaume Tritter, said that the Alstom machine-building company has been a part of Azerbaijan's industrial history since 2008, and since 2015 it has been fully focused on the railway transport sector and closely cooperates with the South Caucasus region, in particular with Azerbaijan, in the field of railway mobility.
He noted that Azerbaijan plays an important role in the region, diversifying its economy and paying special attention to expanding transit opportunities.
"We have already delivered three trains to the Baku metro and are currently fulfilling a contract for the supply of 50 electric locomotives to Azerbaijan Railways CJSC," Tritter added.
Tritter also stressed that Azerbaijan is a modern country with a rapidly developing infrastructure.
"Electric locomotives are an important landmark for Azerbaijan, and for us - experience in promoting this business in Georgia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan," Tritter said.
