BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 24. The Eurasian Stabilization and Development Fund (EFSD) is planning the reconstruction of a key road connecting major international transport corridors in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.
The Chairman of the Cabinet of the Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov made the announcement during a meeting with Andrey Shirokov, Executive Director of the EFSD.
“As part of the planned Aral-Suusamyr Road Reconstruction project, approximately 80 kilometers of road will be upgraded. This road connects two critical international transport corridors in Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek-Osh and the North-South. The successful completion of this project will accelerate the socio-economic development of the Naryn and Talas regions, as well as remote areas of the Chuy region, reduce travel time, and significantly improve road safety in the country,” Japarov said.
The chairman also noted that the EFSD cooperation is expected to facilitate projects in priority areas. For example, a project to provide drinking water to 32 settlements in the Osh region, with a total funding of $60 million, will be implemented. Additionally, projects are being developed to improve the irrigation system and procure ambulances.
The EFSD is a regional financial institution with assets exceeding $9 billion, established in 2009. Its objectives include promoting economic and financial stability in member states and supporting their sustainable development.
