BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18. Iran's production at the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) set record with 711 million cubic meters on November 13, Sepehdar Abbaszadeh, a representative of Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company, told reporters, Trend reports.
Abbaszadeh noted that Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company has set a daily production record at the South Pars Gas Field last year, with 706 million cubic meters of rich gas produced daily.
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) contributes to 70 percent of Iran's gas production. With an estimated 51 trillion cubic meters of reserves, Iran's share includes 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
To note, Iran has 28 phases at the South Pars gas field. Iran has started production in this field since 2002. It is reported that Iran is currently producing a total of 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from these phases. It is estimated that Iran has spent an estimated $90 billion on this field. It is noted that about 33 percent of the gas that can be produced from the gas field belongs to Iran. On the Iranian side, the fields have been developed by Iran, while on the Qatari side, the fields have been developed mostly by foreign companies.
Iran is considered the second-largest gas reserve country in the world, with approximately 34 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves. Currently, 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.
