Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 September / Trend corr. R.Ergun / The Portuguese and French National Beach football teams refused to participate in the European Cup to be held in Azerbaijan.
"The Portuguese and French National teams can be punished for refusal to participate in the championship," Gabino Renoles, secretary of the World Beach Football Federation, said at a news conference in Baku on 17 September.
Matches of the European Cup on beach football will take place in Baku from 18 to 21 September. The Azerbaijani National team will meet with the British team at the first match at 03.15PM on 19 September. There will be a friendly match between the Azerbaijani and Spanish National team on 18 September.
Final matches of the European Cup will be held on 21 September.
The Portuguese and French National teams refused to participate in the international tournament because of the war in Georgia, Renoles said.
"Although we told federations of these countries that Azerbaijan was far from a danger zone, it was fruitless. We will discuss an issue to punish them," Renoles said.
