ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 6. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the significant potential for deepening collaboration between Kazakhstan and Orano S.A. during a recent meeting, Trend reports.

He emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing high-tech industries in Kazakhstan while ensuring reliable and safe supplies of natural uranium to France.

During the discussions, President Tokayev and Orano representatives explored avenues for strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and France in the fields of science and technology, as well as the extraction and processing of rare metals.

Orano S.A. is a major international French industrial company and a leader in France’s nuclear sector, reporting revenues of 4.8 billion euros in 2023. With its extensive experience in the nuclear industry, Orano is well-positioned to support Kazakhstan in developing its energy resources and enhancing its technological capabilities.

Meanwhile, on October 6, 2024, Kazakhstan held a referendum on constructing the country’s first nuclear power plant. The proposal received strong support, with over 71 percent voting in favor.

Following the referendum, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the nuclear plant should be developed by an international consortium. Potential technology suppliers being considered include China, South Korea, Russia, and France.
