BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. Azerbaijan saw an increase in air transport, with over 300,000 passengers being transported by air in January 2025.
The data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee indicates that this figure marks a 13.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Of the transportation, nearly all, 99.9 percent, were carried out by state-owned vehicles, with only a small fraction, 0.1 percent, handled by private enterprises.
Additionally, cargo transportation via air grew by 7.7 percent, reaching 34,700 tons.
To note, both passenger and cargo transport in Azerbaijan saw notable growth in January 2025, with passenger traffic increasing by 5.5 percent and cargo transport rising by 7.9 percent compared to the same period last year. A total of 18.4 million tons of cargo was transported by various sectors within the transportation industry. Of the total, 4.5 percent was carried by sea, 8.2 percent by rail, 0.2 percent by air, 55.7 percent by road, and 31.4 percent by pipelines.
