BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18.​ Azerbaijan saw a notable increase in the volume of cargo transportation by rail from January through February 2025, with a total value of $526.6 million and a volume of 1.3 million tons transported.

Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that this represents an increase of $51.8 million, or 10.9 percent, in value and a 158,700 ton, or 14.3 percent, increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

During the mentioned period, Azerbaijan imported goods worth $398.8 million, totaling 848,600 tons via rail, marking a $50.3 million (14.4 percent) increase in value and a 174,100 ton (25.8 percent) rise in volume compared to January-February of 2024.

In the same period, $127.7 million worth of goods, or 416,000 tons, were exported via rail, showing a slight increase of $1.4 million (1.1 percent) in value but a small decrease of 15,400 tons (3.6 percent) in volume compared to the previous year.

Additionally, across all transport modes, a total of $8.9 billion worth of 10.6 million tons of goods were moved, reflecting a growth of $1.7 billion (23.2 percent) in value and an increase of 678,700 tons (6.8 percent) in volume compared to the same period in 2024.
