In 2008, the Aktau International Sea Commercial Port (AISCP) state enterprise increased shipment by 0.4 percent, the AISCP Information and Marketing Research Department said, the Kazakhstan Today agency reported.
The Aktau International Sea Port shipped more than 11 million tons of general cargo and oil, or 102.5 percent of the plan in 2008. Overall, 8,902.200 tons of oil cargo (100 per cent of the plan) was shipped through the port.
Totally 1,867.900 tons were shipped in 2008 compared to 1,283.600 tons in 2007. Roughly 1, 510,5 tons of metal was shipped.
In May 2008, some 165,176,9 tons of metal was shipped from Aktau. The figure is more the monthly plan by 73 percent. Thus, the growth rate for transshipment of the metal in 2008 compared with 2007-m was 30 per cent.
In 2008 some 266,000 tons of grain or 133 percent of the plan was shipped. Over the same period of 2007, roghly 187,800 tons of grain was transported. The increase of the index in 2008 compared with the 2007 was at 41.6 percent.
The transshipment of other goods also increased by 13.7 per cent - up to 104,400 tons, or 109.9 percent of the plan. In 2007, 91,300 tons various cargoes were transported.
According to the AISCP, a stable growth in export, import and transit through the international corridors of TRACECA and North - South was observed in 2008. A special role in ensuring the growth of cargo transit plays ferry transport through the port of Aktau.
However, ferry services amounted 227.500 tons, or 94.8 percent of the planned in 2008 compared to 237,600 tons in 2007.
In addition, the port provided work and services amounting to 6.5,4768 billion tenge, which is by 52.4 percent more than in 2007. In 2007, the Aktau International Sea Commercial Port shipped 10,971,000 tons of general cargo and oil.
