An oil refinery in Iran has developed technology to produce eight types of catalysts, and, as a result, the outflow of $200 million from the country has been prevented, said Mehdi Rashidzadeh, head of the Center for Catalyst Technology Development Studies at the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry, Trend reports via ISNA.
He said the reason for saving so much money is that these catalysts contain precious metals such as platinum.
“Every year there is a need for 1,500 tons of RCD catalysts,” he said. “Therefore, catalyst is considered one of the valuable products of the refinery.”
He added that the catalysts are used at the Persian Gulf Star Refinery, Bandar Imam Khomeini Petrochemical Complex and some other oil refineries.
