By Fakhri Vakilov - Trend:

Uzbekistan has sharply increased the export of fresh herbs, mainly dill, parsley and cilantro, to the Ukrainian and Russian markets, Trend reports citing the information portal on fruit and vegetable markets on the east of the European Union - Eastfruit.

In the first three quarters of 2019, Ukraine imported greens from Uzbekistan by $1.2 million, which is a historical record and exceeds the last year's figure for the same period by 2.6 times.

From January to September 2019, Uzbekistan supplied 1,600 tons of fresh greens to the Ukrainian market, which allowed it to take the lead for the first time in the rating of the main suppliers of this category of vegetables to Ukraine, bypassing Italy, Iran and Georgia, according to Eastfruit.

The share of Uzbekistan in the import of greens by Ukraine reached 41 percent, although two years ago it was below 9 percent.

In general, Ukraine increased its imports of greens over the indicated period by 40 percent to 3,900 tons. During the same period, Iran delivered 1,250 tons of greenery to Ukraine, Georgia – 460 tons and Italy - 330 tons.

It should be noted that the supply of Uzbek greens to Ukraine was mainly carried out by road, while to Russia, as a rule, by air. For comparison, Russia imported 33,500 tons of greenery in the same nine months of 2019 - almost ten times more than Ukraine, of which 13,500 tons came from Uzbekistan.

Naturally, it was more profitable for Uzbekistan to export greens to the Russian market, because of a better price. And the volume of the Russian green market was much larger than that of Ukraine.

In 2019, Uzbekistan for the first time outperformed all competitors and became the largest supplier of fresh herbs to Russia as well. According to the results of nine months of 2019, Russia imported 19 percent more greens from Uzbekistan than in the same period last year.

For many years in a row, Iran was the leader in the supply of fresh greens to Russia, but this year Iranian exports decreased by 14 percent, and the share of Uzbekistan in supply of greens to Russia reached, as in Ukraine, 40 percent.
