Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.18 / Trend E.Ismayilov /
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) plans to complete the first phase of operations to establish ecological park (biological town) at 9.3 hectares of production areas of Tagiyev oil and gas production unit, a source in SOCAR said.
The company launched the work on the project and the first phase of the construction is expected to end in March, 2010, the source said.
It is planned to achieve the initial design capacity in the first phase of the project. The first stage covers fencing the area, creating the necessary infrastructure and cultivating seedlings of new plant species. Some 20 percent of the energy supply of a new ecological park will be met by using alternative energy sources. About 20 kilowatts of required 80-100 kilowatts of energy of the park at night will be achieved through alternative energy types. Work over defining the efficiency of alternative energy use, particularly wind and solar energy, is under development
The main objective of this project is to develop alternative energy sources in the country, the source added.
It is planned to expand the use of alternative energy and increase the proportion of their use in electricity supply of the park within the second phase of the ecological project, the source said.
In addition, it is planned to lay open section to cultivate seedlings in two-hectare-area in October-November, the source said earlier.
New town will not be envisaged for human dwelling. The company plans to plant trees, bushes and various flowers in the park, SOCAR vice-president for ecology Mukhtar Babayev said earlier.
The company planned to supply the town with gas, electricity and water owing to alternative sources. Gas will be partially supplied owing to associated gas ejected into air to the fields. Town's demand for electricity will be partially provided through the use of solar energy. Water required for irrigation, will be delivered through the purification of groundwater and seawater desalination. The experience of foreign countries and foreign companies will be used in realization of the program within the project, Babayev said earlier.
