Azerbaijan, Baku, August 26 /Trend/

With the assistance of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) and the World Bank (WB), an international conference on reduction of emission of associated gas will take place in Baku in November.

The WB mission started its work in Baku on August 26 within the Global Gas Flaring Reduction Program (GGFR). The mission, which will complete its work on September 1, includes WB specialist for operations in the department of oil, gas, and mining services Bakhtiyar Karimov and head of the department Bend Swanson.

The mission will conduct meetings and discussions with representatives of SOCAR in order to prepare the participation of SOCAR in the third phase of GGFR, preparations for the upcoming conference, and an internal seminar for employees of the company.

SOCAR will prepare a preliminary version of a plan to reduce emissions of associated gas within the GGFR.

Currently, SOCAR is working to reduce emissions of associated gas on offshore oil and gas fields Guneshli and Oil Rocks.

SOCAR has been a participant of the GGFR program since 2008. A working group has been established at SOCAR to prepare the Associated Gas Recovery Plan, which will likely be adopted by late 2009. SOCAR has also asked for support from the program to measure gas popping, and provided recommendations for further improving activities in this sphere.
