The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan will launch a carbamide plant in Sumgait by the end of 2016, head of the plant Khayal Jafarov told Trend.
At present, the work on the construction of carbamide plant project is continued successfully, he said. The work on primary designing will be completed in the near future and the recently detailed design work will be continued. Also, recent orders have been made on the delivery of some of the equipment with long term manufacturing and supply date.
Furthermore, geotechnical survey in the territory allotted for the construction of the plant, and the preparation of the construction site itself have also been completed.
"General contractor (Samsung Engineering) has started the construction of a variety of temporary structures. Also it was assumed that the active construction work will begin in late summer - early autumn. Complete construction work is planned by the end of 2016," Jafarov said.
It is expected to produce 2,000 tons of carbamide per day at the plant, which will consist of sectors producing ammonia, liquid and granular carbamide.
As Jafarov said, it is expected that delivery of the plant will make an important contribution to the development of agriculture and chemical industries in Azerbaijan.
Considering the physical properties of the carbamide, such as good water solubility and a high nitrogen content, the use of carbomide as a fertilizer would give positive results. Thus, one of the main goals will be achieved, namely not only meeting the demand for fertilizer in the country, but also the transformation of Azerbaijan into one of the main suppliers of carbomide in the region, as part of the produced carbomide at the plant will also be delivered to the countries of the region and the world market through the Black Sea, Jafarov stressed.
The new plant will be located in the industrial area of the "Azerkimya" production association (PA) in the city of Sumgait. The funds for construction of the plant in the amount of about 500 million euros (excluding taxes) will be allocated from the state budget, since its construction is provided under the State program of providing the population in Azerbaijan reliable food products in 2008-2015. SOCAR also plans to start construction of similar plant in Georgia.
