By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

The Turkmen government notes the country’s great potential for international partnership in the oil and gas sector, including the development of fields of the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

This issue was being discussed at the latest meeting of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, according to the report.

Turkmenoil (Turkmennebit) State Concern earlier reported that it was preparing to start development of deep-water fields in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, the potential resources of which are estimated at 18.2 billion tons in oil equivalent.

The first steps in this direction were taken in February 2010 when the work was started at the Northern Goturdepe field, located in the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea.

Thirty two blocks, located at the medium and big depth and require large capital expenditures, were put for up international tenders.

Over 80 percent of resources of the Caspian Sea's Turkmen sector is in the sediments at depths of more than 3,000 meters and poorly studied areas of oil and gas, according to local estimates.

Prospects are connected with the Middle Caspian and South Caspian oil and gas basins.

Petronas, Dragon Oil, Buried Hill, RWE Dea AG, Areti (former Itera) and Eni companies are involved in the development of the Caspian Sea’s Turkmen sector.
