BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will consider cooperation with Azerbaijan for institutional capacity development, a source in the company told Trend.
“JICA has supported Azerbaijan in developing its basic infrastructure through loan aid projects such as the Power Plant Construction Project, and Provincial Cities Water Supply and Sewerage Project, which are a key factor in sustaining economic growth. Henceforth, Japan will continue its assistance in the field of basic infrastructure such as power supply, communication, and port facilities, which contribute to economic activities, and also will consider cooperation for institutional capacity development to facilitate activities in this field,” the source noted.
JICA said it considers it vitally important to promote mutual understanding through various channels such as acceptance of trainees, dispatch of experts and acceptance of students.
“The training programs in Japan are held to provide Azerbaijan
officials with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge
accumulated in Japanese society with the hope that those people
would find useful knowledge and re-create their knowledge for the
enhancement of their capacity or that of the organization and
society to which they belong. The Knowledge Co-Creation Programs
tries to meet various needs of the government of Azerbaijan by
covering a wide range of professional fields, ranging from
education, health, infrastructure, energy, trade and finance, to
agriculture and rural development, cutting-edge science and
technology and environmental protection. The number of participants
from Azerbaijan reached 500 persons since 1995,” added the
source.
JICA is the biggest bilateral development aid organization in the world, with an annual operating budget of over $15 billion. Not only for Azerbaijan, JICA has also contributed a lot to world development. JICA plays a significant role as Official Development Assistance for Japan.
JICA serves as Japan's ODA's "one-stop shop," offering a variety of services such as grants, financing and investment, volunteers, technical cooperation, and private sector partnerships. As one of the world's largest bilateral aid agencies, JICA operates in more than 150 countries and regions and has approximately 90 overseas offices.
