By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

The cargo turnover of the Baku International Sea Trade Port in 2021 increased by 14.6 percent, Trend reports via the port’s press service.

According to the press service, last year, the transshipment of dry cargo also grew - by 66 percent, while the transshipment of containers - by 11.6 percent compared to 2020.

Thus, the forecast for cargo turnover was accomplished by 104 percent, the press service noted.

"The observed growth in cargo transportation expands Azerbaijan's transit capabilities in this region,” the port's website said. “Especially, the growth in container traffic can be qualified as an indicator of the integration of transport corridors passing through Azerbaijan into the international logistics network.”

In 2021, the transshipment of cargo by the port increased by 14.6 percent compared to 2020 - up to 5.6 million tons. At the same time, the share of transit cargo amounted to 92.7 percent of the total cargo turnover (over 5.1 million tons).

"This indicator is also the result of the interest of third countries in the international transport corridors passing through Azerbaijan," added the website.
