DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 29. Grain production in Tajikistan has increased sixfold in 2023 compared to 1991 (since gaining independence), the country's President Emomali Rahmon said, addressing the country's Supreme Assembly, Trend reports.

The president compared the current statistics with those from 1991, the year the country gained independence. According to him, the wheat production by 5.6 times, rice by 6.7 times, potatoes by 10.8 times, vegetables by 9 times, melons by 17.5 times, fruits by 10 times, and grapes by 2 times.

He attributed these results to the measures implemented by Tajikistan's government, which have led to an increase in the provision of essential food products to the population.

It was revealed that during this period, the number of large cattle has doubled (currently reaching 2.6 million heads), small livestock has increased by 2 times (reaching 6.6 million heads), and poultry by 1.9 times (reaching 12.2 million heads).

Additionally, the president noted that the country's demand for meat and milk is almost entirely met by domestic production.

"Each year, the import of meat from outside the country is decreasing; from 10,700 tons in 2014, it decreased to 144 tons in 2023. The import of milk is extremely minimal," Rahmon said.

Furthermore, he noted that the country's population is growing. Over the last three decades, Tajikistan's population has increased from 5 million to 10 million, resulting in a twofold increase in the demand for food products.
