There has been no diplomatic arrangement or correspondence between Iran and Egypt for exchange of visits, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said during a press conference on Nov.7.
Qasemi responded to a question about a report, published by Reuters on November 6, Trend’s correspondent reported from the event in Tehran.
According to the report, Egyptian Petroleum Minister Tarek El Molla was on his way to Iran on Sunday to try to strike new oil deals, sources close to his delegation said at Cairo airport, after Saudi Arabia suspended its oil agreement last month.
Reuters reported that after that suspension, Egypt voted in favor of a Russian-backed U.N. resolution on Syria in October that excluded calls to stop bombing Aleppo, which Saudi Arabia strongly opposed.
However, Reuters reported Nov.7 that El Molla attended on Monday an oil conference in Abu Dhabi where he told Reuters he was not going to Iran.
Egypt and Iran have had strained diplomatic ties since the late 1970s and an Egyptian official visiting Tehran is a rarity.
