Tehran, Iran, Jan. 3

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has managed to foil 130 aircraft hijack attempts in Iran in the past 30 years, said Major General Mohammad Baqeri, a top commander of IRGC.
Baqeri said that the last case of hijack attempt was on a Tehran-Damascus flight, and it was politically motivated, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Jan. 3.
"The ISIL (also referred to as Islamic State or ISIS) and other Salafi groups have tried to hijack Iranian aircraft several times in the past few years, but all their attempts were foiled," Baqeri explained.
The commander went on to note that IRGC managed to stop an assassination attempt on one of the country's nuclear scientists.
"The Zionist enemy wanted to assassinate the scientist, but our forces reacted in time and prevented the assassination attempt," he said.
Tehran says the assassination of its nuclear scientists have been carried out by Israeli agents, in an attempt to derail Iran's nuclear program.
