The Patriarchate of Georgia expresses its indignation and regret at the desecration of the monument of great Georgian poet and public figure Shota Rustaveli in Jerusalem.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry has sent the appropriate message to the Foreign Ministry, the Knesset of Israel and the mayor of Jerusalem for the timely investigation of this incident in Jerusalem, Georgia's Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania said at a briefing.

The note was also sent to the Israeli Foreign Ministry and another letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.

This bust was installed in 2005 adjacent to the monastery after frescos of Shota Rustaveli were removed in the monastery. A few days ago, strangers damaged the eyes of the bust.

The Georgian Patriarchate made a statement on this issue yesteday.
