Kazakh National Mining Company Tau-Ken Samruk and Chinese CITIC Group are considering the possibility of launching joint steel production in Kazakhstan, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with the reference to the Kazakh company.
Earlier Tau-Ken Samruk's delegation visited a number of industrial and research facilities in China. Within the trip the company signed an agreement of intent with Chinese CITIC Group.
"As a part of this agreement the parties are considering the possibility of cooperation on construction of the electric metallurgical complex with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons of high-quality steel on the basis of iron ore deposits in Kazakhstan," the company said.
The project envisages the creation of new industries in mining, smelting, metallurgy and mechanical engineering using the practical experience of leading companies in the titanium-magnetite ores processing, direct reduced iron and high-quality and special steel production with the use of innovative technologies.
