The thermal power plants with the total generation capacity of 2,500 megawatt-hours will be launched in Iran in the current Iranian year (From March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021), said Mohsen Tarztalab, Managing Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Iran.
The director emphasized that so far, 1,260-megawatt-hours of thermal power plants have been launched in Iran.
He added that the units of Shirvan, Caspian, Heris, Sabalan, Jahrom, and Hengam thermal power plants will be launched by the end of the current Iranian year.
Tarztalab said that new thermal power plants with a capacity of about 1,000 megawatt-hours will be launched in the first three months of the next Iranian year (starting March 21, 2021).
“At the same time, units of 7 combined cycle power plants will be launched until next summer and 1,130 megawatt-hours will be added to the electricity generation,” the director noted.
Currently, the total generation of power plants in Iran, including thermal, water, alternative, small-scale, and nuclear power plants is 83,685 megawatts, where 81 percent of it is produced by TPPs.
At present, the combined cycle power plants account for 41.7 percent of the generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants with 28,249 megawatts, the gas units account for 34.9 percent with 23,657 megawatts, and steam units account for 23.4 percent with 15,829 megawatts.
