Azerbaijani postal operator gets license for financial services

Azerbaijani postal operator - LLC Azerpocht has received a license from the Central Bank to render financial services to the public, postal department head Novruz Mammadov said.

Mammadov said that the operator now has all the legal rights to render financial services to the public. In future, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan will give permits for rendering more financial services.

Today, Azerpoct conducts tenders and signed contracts for the purchase and installation of appropriate technical equipment. Supplier of computer, networking equipment in the office is the company Polygon Eurasia Limited, which won the tender announced by Azerpoct in December last year.

Mammadov said after completion of technical equipment in the shortest time, all post offices can be connected to the automated corporate information system of the operator.

Rendering of banking financial services will be possible through an automated corporate information system, which is ready for trial operation. More than 200 post offices are connected to the automated system of Azerpoct.

At the initial stage post offices will render limited banking transactions, cash transactions, money transfers and the opening of client accounts, etc.

The minimal registered capital for the postal operator is fixed to the amount of $20 million manat, daily test ratio - 50 percent.

Annual reports must be submitted not later than January 15 of next year, and the independent auditor's report and confirmed annual balance sheet and statements of profit and loss - not later than May 1.

By joining the banking market of Azerbaijan Azerpocht will seriously compete with players of the banking market. Today, about 47 banks operate on Azerbaijani banking market.

The number of post-offices is more than 1,600 (about 340 of them provide services to the population in cities, district centers and villages, and others - in rural areas) .

On April 17, the official exchange rate is 0.8035 manat to $1.
