ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 15. The volume of container traffic by China-Europe trains along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) amounted to 196,600 TEU from January through June 2024, Trend reports.

According to the China Railway, this is 22,310 TEU, or 12.8 percent more than a year earlier.

At the same time, in the first half of 2024, 1,724 China-Europe freight trains traveled along the Middle Corridor, which is 180 trains, or 11.7 percent more than a year earlier.

These trains transported 2.144 million tons of cargo. This is 12.3 percent more than in the first half of 2023.

The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.

The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.

The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
