A US-operated drone has killed al-Qaeda's second-in-command in the mountains of Pakistan, according to The New York Times, DPA reported.
Atiyah Abd al Rahman, a Libyan who was the top planner for al-Qaeda operations, died in the drone strike on August 22, according to an unnamed US official quoted by the Times.
Rahman had close contact with Osama bin Laden before the al-Qaeda leader was killed in May in Pakistan in a clandestine US military raid.
