Azerbaijan significantly increases payment cards turnover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 3.5 billion manat ($2 billion), or 53.08 percent, from 6.6 billion to 10.1 billion manat ($5.9 billion) as of January 1, 2024, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 1.2 billion manat ($ 705 million) (86.96 percent growth over the year), of which 61.3 million transactions worth 3.2 billion manat ($1.8 billion) were carried out abroad.

The number of debit card transactions (both within the country and abroad) amounted to 1 billion for 85 billion manat ($49.9 billion), of which 156.2 million transactions worth 35.9 billion manat ($21 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and 345.3 million transactions worth 7.2 billion manat ($4.2 billion) were made through POS terminals inside the country.

Bank customers made 117 million transactions on credit cards (both within the country and abroad) totaling 6.2 billion manat ($3.6 billion).

At the same time, 6 million transactions worth 1.2 billion manat ($705 million) were made through ATMs inside the country, and 57.9 billion transactions worth 1.9 billion manat ($1.1 billion) were made through POS terminals.

Meanwhile, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 3.2 million or 24.17 percent as of January 1, 2024 compared to the same period last year and reached 16.9 million against 13.6 million a year earlier.
