TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 23. The Trans-Afghan transport route achieved a significant milestone in 2024, with total cargo traffic exceeding 5 million tons, Trend reports.
Of this, over 3 million tons were transited through Uzbekistan to Afghanistan. The route has also enabled the movement of goods from countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Georgia, the Netherlands, Türkiye, China, and Saudi Arabia to both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
This achievement was highlighted during an online meeting organized by the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, where representatives from Pakistan officially joined the international transport corridor linking Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the roadmap adopted in Termez, with an emphasis on the growing importance of the corridor for regional trade. The parties also underscored the need for Afghanistan’s integration into the corridor, recognizing its role as an essential link in enhancing trade connectivity.
To further develop the corridor, the working group members agreed to organize an in-person meeting with the railway administrations of the participating countries. This collaboration aims to strengthen regional logistics, streamline cargo flows between Central and South Asia, and further boost trade connectivity across the region.
