BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28. The number of transactions conducted in Azerbaijan using American Express payment cards issued by resident financial institutions stood at 7,300 by the end of June 2025, while the total transaction volume reached 1.1 million manat ($647,000).
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank (CBA) indicates that the number of transactions with American Express cards issued by local institutions decreased by 300, or 3.9 percent, while the transaction volume increased by 200,000 manat ($117,647), or 22.2 percent, compared to the previous month.
Moreover, the number of transactions carried out using American Express cards issued by non-resident financial institutions in the same period was 1,700, with a total volume of 1.4 million manat ($823,500). Compared to the previous month, the number of transactions remained unchanged, while the volume rose by 500,000 manat ($294,117), or 55.5 percent.
Transactions with cards issued by resident financial institutions refer to operations carried out using payment cards provided by banks and financial organizations operating in Azerbaijan. In contrast, figures related to non-resident financial institutions reflect the volume and count of transactions conducted in Azerbaijan using cards issued abroad to individuals residing outside the country.
