ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 23. From January through May 2025, the volume of goods produced in the city of Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, reached 976.2 billion tenge (approx. $1.85 billion), Trend reports via the Almaty city akimat (municipal government).
According to the information, the largest growth was recorded in the engineering sector, which increased by 36.3 percent, reaching a volume of 366.1 billion tenge (approx. $695.6 million) and accounting for 46.7 percent of the city’s manufacturing industry.
Within the engineering sector, the majority share belongs to automobile manufacturing – 36.1 percent.
“Growth was also recorded in other key industries: Production of other non-metallic mineral products increased by 47 billion tenge (approx. $89.3 million), up 25.6 percent; Printing activities rose by 27.3 percent to 25 billion tenge (approx. $47.5 million); Pharmaceutical production grew by 14.2 percent to 11.2 billion tenge (approx. $21.3 million); Apparel manufacturing increased by 18.8 percent to 3.7 billion tenge (approx. $7.0 million); Wood product manufacturing jumped by 35.2 percent to 3.4 billion tenge (approx. $6.5 million),” the statement said.
Currently, 144 large and medium-sized industrial enterprises are registered in Almaty, with most located in the Zhetysu, Turksib, and Alatau districts.
Moreover, the Almaty Industrial Zone and the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) “Park of Innovative Technologies” (PIT) are actively developing. In 2025, 11 projects worth 135.4 billion tenge (approx. $257.3 million) are planned for launch in the Industrial Zone, creating 4,000 jobs. In the SEZ “PIT”, 6 projects worth 18.5 billion tenge (approx. $35.2 million) are expected to be commissioned, creating 415 jobs.
For today, 15 small industrial parks currently operate in Almaty, providing over 1,500 jobs. By 2027, the city plans to build 35 more parks covering 194,000 square meters, attracting 21.8 billion tenge (approx. $41.4 million) in investment and creating over 4,200 additional jobs.
