In 2011, the expenses for the implementation of the megaproject -Western Europe-Western China should constitute more than 161.2 billion tenge (or $1.1 billion at the rate of 145 tenge per 1 dollar), said on Friday, Kazakh Transport and Communications Ministry Highways Committee Chairman Zamir Saginov said.
"This year it is planned to spend 161.2 billion tenge. Today, construction work cover 1,615 km of roads. Some 19 general contracting companies are involved. They are five Kazakh companies and 98 local subcontracted organizations among them," Saginov said.
He said 417 km of roads was built in the lower layer of asphalt concrete coating in 2010, 90.5 billion tenge (or more than $ 620 million) were spent.
The length of the corridor on the territory of Kazakhstan is 2,787 km long and passes through the territories of the five regions. Some 2,452 km of roads (Aktobe - 355 km, Kyzylorda - 812 km, SKR - 448 km, Zhambyl - 495 km, Almaty - 342 km) is subject to reconstruction.
The total cost of the project is 825 billion tenge.
Loan agreements with five international financial institutions, totaling more than three billion dollars (EBRD-$ 180 million, IBRD-$2.125 billion, ADB (I, II tranches) - $527 million, IDB-$170 million) have been signed and ratified by the Kazakh law to ensure project funding.
