The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will start drilling of two new wells in Kalmaz underground gas storage facilities.
Azerbaijan has two underground gas storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz.
According to the source, two wells on gas storage facility have been already drilled and now dismantling of drilling equipment from these wells is underway. Later the equipment will be installed to drill two new wells.
"Also drilling of two wells is underway on the Garadagh gas storage facility," the source said.
He said in parallel with the drilling of new wells repair work is underway on existing wells and equipment.
SOCAR plans to drill 10 new wells on two gas storage facilities this year, 6 of which will be drilled on Kalmaz and four - on Garadagh gas storage facility.
The drilling of new wells and repair of old ones is underway to increase the volume of gas injection into gas storage facilities.
As SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said earlier, the company plans to inject 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas in underground gas storage facilities in 2011 compared to 3.05 billion in 2010.
Over 1.14 billion cubic meters of gas remained in Azerbaijani gas storage facilities from last season.
