DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 11. The construction of the Orto-Tokoy Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026, Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Energy.
Active construction is underway at the plant, which is owned by Chakan HPP JSC. Key activities include the construction of a diversion tunnel, excavation of the HPP pit, development of access roads, and the first delivery of hydroelectric equipment.
Progress so far:
- A construction camp has been set up.
- Storage facilities, concrete plants, and power supply systems are in place.
- Ground cementing has been done to prevent collapses.
- Temporary and permanent access roads have been established.
Current construction status:
- The pit excavation for the plant is 10 percent complete, with 50,000 cubic meters of soil removed.
- 312 meters of the planned 771-meter diversion tunnel have been drilled.
- Equipment delivery is ongoing, including a cone for the suction pipe of the three turbines.
- Road construction to the water intake through the dam crest is underway.
The Orto-Tokoy HPP, located near the town of Balykchy and the Orto-Tokoy reservoir, will have a capacity of 21 MW and an annual output of 75 million kWh. The project is being carried out by the China National Heavy Machinery Corporation, with construction having started in summer 2024.
