ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 10. The volume of oil cargo transportation via the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) network amounted to 12.7 million tons from January through August 2024, which is 3.2 percent more than the same period last year, KTZ told Trend.
In total, from January through August 2024, more than 165.5 million tons of cargo were transported via the Kazakhstan Railways network.
Of this volume, 55.8 million tons were sent to export. Rail transportation within the country increased by 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year, to 109.7 million tons.
The shipment of coal amounted to 63.2 million tons, including 45.4 million tons of solid fuel transported within the country for thermal power plants and the population.
In addition, grain transportation within the country increased by 11.3 percent compared to last year and amounted to more than 1.5 million tons. A total of 5.7 million tons of grain were transported.
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 326.8 billion ton kilometers, which is 4.8 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
