EBRD to provide loans for water supply enhancement in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 7. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide two sovereign loans totaling up to 8 million euro to enhance and modernize water supply systems in the cities of Bokhtar and Dangara of Tajikistan, Trend reports.

According to the EBRD, the agreement was signed during a working visit of Mark Bowman, the bank's Vice President for Political Cooperation and Partnerships, to Tajikistan.

The loan package will be complemented by grants for capital expenditures amounting to up to 8 million euro, along with 1.6 million euro allocated for technical assistance. This support will involve engaging qualified international consultants to help local companies implement projects in line with international standards and improve their financial and operational performance.

In total, investments of up to 17.6 million euro will be directed toward improving the quality, accessibility, and reliability of water supply services. This includes the rehabilitation and construction of main water pipelines, the modernization of water intake facilities, and the introduction of a billing system.

The EBRD and its donors have allocated over 122 million euros in loans and grants for the implementation of 14 water supply and wastewater treatment projects across 23 cities nationwide.
