Some 90 percent of pistachio crops died in Iran’s Kerman province, and the decline in the crop’s production plays a role in the increase in prices for this product, Abbas Saeedi, head of Northern Kerman Agricultural Jihad Organization, said in an interview with ISNA.
He said that the price of pistachios has increased as a result of the increase in foreign currency, because pistachio is one of the export products.
“Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, we lost 90 percent of the product in the current year (Iranian year starts March 21, 2018),” he said. “We were expecting to harvest 90,000 tons of pistachios in the Kerman province this year. By the end of the harvesting season, we will probably have only 10,000 tons of products left. This issue has a negative impact on the market.”
He said that 85 percent of pistachio products are exported and 15 percent are used for domestic needs in Iran.
