The UN Security Council is not considering new sanctions against Iran regarding its nuclear program, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin said at a press conference on March 30.

"Now no one is suggesting new sanctions. The council does not plan to hold discussions at this stage," Churkin said.

The IAEA should play a leading role in resolving the Iranian problem to reveal what is happening in Iran and that Iran's nuclear program will not lead to the creation of nuclear weapons, Churkin said.

"We hope that this will be a serious dialogue and the issue will never return to the council," he said.

The international community is looking forward to a constructive dialogue between the U.S. and Iran, which will have an essential importance in this issue, he said.
