Today the most important problem of the Azerbaijani press is the weakness of its economic base, chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov told media.
"Other problems arise amid the problems arising in the economic base. In this regard, a number of projects has been implemented. The concept of state support for the media has been adopted. A state fund has been created to implement the tasks identified in the concept. This is care and state assistance rendered to press for improve its logistical base, "Amashov said.
Members of the board of the Azerbaijani Press Council and media representatives visited the tomb of National leader Heydar Aliyev in the Honorary Cemetery in connection with the 135-th anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press.
Amashov said that the weakness of advertising also affects the financial condition of newspapers. "Today, the total advertising market is 35-40 million manat in Azerbaijan, the allocation of two million of this amount to the press and other problems are causing problems for the Azerbaijani press. This has an impact on the professional level of journalists. It creates obstacles to the spread of newspapers and their development in terms of quality. If we can solve the economic problem of the press, other problems will disappear," Amashov said.
A prominent writer and educator Hasan bey Zardabi began to publish newspaper Akinchi from July 22, 1875. It laid the foundation of the national press in Azerbaijan. It was always the herald of truth. It reflected progressive ideas and thinking. It played an important role in educating our people and promoting national and universal values.
